If ever there were an event that would solidify the genius of Alexander McQueen, it would be “Savage Beauty”, the exhibition that has been on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since May fourth and will continue through August seventh.
From the most knowledgeable fashion fanatic to the novice passer-by, this retrospective should not be missed.
The show is a beautiful tribute to an artist whose life came to a heartbreaking end with his death early last year. Given the tragic circumstances behind McQueen’s life, “Savage Beauty” doesn’t hold back for a moment.
Curators allow the darkness, humor, and technical beauty of the clothing to come to life. The imagery, along with his words, is disturbing and beautiful just as I am sure they were intended. Skulls, skins, feathers, and sheer uncensored talent are the ingredients in what has to be one of the most intense and visually striking events I have had the pleasure to be a part of in years.
Eclect Dissect, Spine and Widows of Culloden are just some of the dresses that cannot be ignored along with the second gallery, “The Cabinet of Curiosities”, that showcases head pieces, shoes, corsets, and video installations that will stay with you forever.

From the very first to his posthumous collection, this unwavering show will never let a fashion icon’s legacy fade to black. McQueen’s body of work is synonymous to a romantic relationship, it takes a lifetime to appreciate and just a moment to fall in love.
