Roma Shopping Guide: Andiamo!

Jun 17, 2011

On the heels of Firenze4ever and Pitti Immagine, we have continued on to Roma. For today’s Fashion Friday, we happily dish out our favorite stores in this amazing city.

1. Nuyorica: Specializing in women’s ready to wear, this independent boutique stocks Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Chloe, Acne and our favorite jewelery designer, Iosselliani (covered the last time Fashion Fridays was in Rome). It’s a refreshing mix to find in Italy and the pieces are not the same we’ve seen in the states, so even though the names may be familiar, the pieces are unique. The location is just off the busy market of Campo dei Fiori on the quaint and quiet Piazza Pollarola 36/37.

2. Get inspired to decorate your home at Mia, a contemporary interior design shop on via di Ripetta, numero 224. From handmade wood plank tables to a collection of Italian cookware and coffee table books, this place is worth a stroll through on your way to see Piazza del Popolo. (Plus, it’s not too far fromGusto, where a glass of wine is a must!).

3. If handmade leather items are quintessential Italian craftsmanship, then Federico Polidori is the master Italian artisan. It was the sophisticated and classic accessories in the window that first drew us into this tiny little shop. Once inside, we were hard pressed not to a) buy everything in sight, and b) custom order an entire collection. Not far from the Pantheon on via Pie di Marmo 7/8.

4. We’ve talked before about proper menswear in Roma at Basttistoni, but this trip we discovered a more accessible and casual take, Kolby. Both a retailer and a designer, Kolby’s collection is made in Italy and offers stylish cuts on classics like chinos, linen shirts and scarves while also stocking their shelves with brands like Scotch & Soda. (There are two locations, but we prefer the more lofty and less busy via del Governo Vecchio spot).

5. RED Valentino is a new and absolute favorite. The shop on via Babuino is a total gem to be explored and discovered while in Roma. Not only is the collection innovative, fun and tempting but the shopping experience takes you off of the historic Roman streets and into a wonderland of modern, clean design.

6. For the inner hippie in you (or for the friend/relative you need a gift for), Taba is a great pit stop. Located in Campo dei Fiori, 13 this small shop offers cotton scarves, fun accessories, leather banded bracelets and linen yoga pants at very affordable prices.

7. Next up is Osklen, also on via Babuino. The geography alone of this brand’s outposts provide insight into the design aesthetic (you can also find Osklen in Milan, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, New York and Sao Paulo). With interesting cuts on basic (women’s) items, this is a great place to pick up a piece (or 2) that you’ll wear to feel comfortable but will inadvertently look cool in the process.

8. And of course, the previously included Herzel de Bach store located just beyond Piazza di Spagna has a fixed place on our Roma shopping list. This boutique shoe store sells their own label (handmade), and also mixes in the likes of Dries van Noten for good measure, sure to evoke shoe lust. Via Del Babuino 123.
