Credited with revolutionizing the way women dressed following World War II, in 1947 Christian Dior introduced a ground breaking women’s collection. Coined by Harper’s Bazaar as the “New Look”, Dior dramatically changed the silhouette of women’s attire and significantly influenced the future of women’s wear.
First established in Paris as a private fashion house, the designs of Christian Dior were constantly innovating. His style of voluptuous, form fitting fashion went against the boxy, more shapeless dress during the 1940s and reaffirmed Paris as the epicenter of the fashion industry. In 1947 Dior launched its first fragrance, “Miss Dior” and in 1967 launched an exclusive line of cosmetics, growing both the profitability and popularity of the brand.
Under the direction of Bernard Arnault, Christian Dior is based in Paris, France and operates on a global scale. The company also owns 42% of conglomerate LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods firm. Offerings now include Christian Dior Couture, Dior Homme, Perfumes and Cosmetics and Dior Fine Jewelry.
